The theme of my collage is Truth. I chose my images to represent a song written about the desire for finding what is true in life. The song is called “Give Me June,” and my collage expresses the different ways people go about finding Truth. The blue skies represent purity, and the idea of a spiritual Being that, for many people with all kinds of different beliefs, is the True meaning of life. The barbed wire across the sky also symbolizes the danger of imposing your own beliefs, or your personal Truth, upon others. The mountain climbers are pushing their physical limits and ascending to the peak where an open mouth attempts to speak the Truth. The slide represents the idea that those who we think are speaking the Truth may not be, and so the climb to the top results in finding yourself back at the bottom. The singer sitting on the washing machine symbolizes how people sometimes lean on what is merely conventional, or how people believe what everyone else believes simply to conform with society, when in reality the Truth is much more complex and derives from within one’s individual life experience.
